Today, the Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued a statement condemning “the abhorrent terrorist attacks that took place today targeting a number of countries, namely the attacks on a Shite mosque in Kuwait, two hotels in Sousse, Tunisia and a gas production plant in France.” The presidency offered “its deepest sympathies and condolences to the governments and peoples of Kuwait, Tunisia and France for the victims of these brutal terrorist incidents.”
In addition, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi spoke by phone with both the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and President of Tunisia, Beji Caid Essebsi. During his call with Kuwait’s Sheikh Al-Sabah, “the President reiterated Egypt’s complete rejection of all forms of sectarianism, which is used as a pretext to destabilize a number of countries in the Arab region. President El Sisi stated that such incidents targeting houses of worship and violating the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan prove unequivocally that they have nothing to do with Islam and its teachings of peace, mercy, tolerance and acceptance of the other.”
During his conversation with President Essebsi of Tunisia, “President El Sisi asserted that Egypt stands firmly with Tunisia and supports its efforts to combat violence, extremism and terrorism. He emphasized that these heinous acts will only increase the determination of the Tunisian people to fight terrorism and maintain security and stability for the Tunisian people so that the country may continue on its path towards development. He wished Tunisia success in realizing the hopes and aspirations of its people.”
